ANNE-CLAIRE PETIT
Press Release Autumn/Winter 2012/13
The world of Anne-Claire Petit is a happy world. With beautiful color schemes and ‘feel good’ items. The crocheted objects are the expression of respect and love for handwork and traditional crafts. In the turmoil of present times the Dutch designer sees it as her personal goal to translate the good things of the past into cheerful objects for our contemporary homes.
The animal kingdom has always been an inexhaustible source of inspiration for Anne-Claire Petit. With the new Meerkat, Bambi and Minous, kids and their parents can step into a hand crocheted fantasy world. Golden oldie Honey Bear is making a comeback in a new color palette with an embroidered heart.
Whereas animals have always appeared up until now in the world of Anne-Claire Petit, humans have not. With the creation of doll Julia (with trousers) and Laura (with dress) this has changed.
“I never underestimate the power of color. The way a shape is perceived is greatly determined by its color. By using new tones in new patterns an animal or item can evoke a new emotion.”
For several years now Anne-Claire Petit has created new products in cooperation with other designers. For this season she worked together with graphic artist Marc Boutavant. “For long we’ve had a soft spot for his world of Mouk.”. The colorful simple forms and sense of humor visible in Boutavant’s quirky characters fit seamlessly into the collection.
The Anne-Claire Petit home collection is growing every season. Big poufs in ‘mix silver’, carpets, a lantern, a heavy dot pillowcase and a number of giant decorative figures, such as the big squirrel, big angel, a fish and red pepper show that there is no limit to size when it comes to hand crochet, nor to the designer’s specific signature style.
